Present Tense owes a little more to the fuzzy guitar-pop of Grizzly Bear and Tame Impala, and dream pop of Washed Out and Animal Collective than the more electronic influences of many other tracks on the album. Lyrically, it’s about the unreliability of memories, both through degradation over time, and affects of inebriation. Thematically, it treads a similar path The Velvet Underground’s “After Hours” – the fine line between a very human desire to cling on the our most cherished experiences, and addiction.
lyrics
Seal my fate
Close that door
Let nothing ever change
Each new break
More of the same
Clear outlines just slip my mind
Losing so much time
This never quite felt like real life
Felt like real life
Best laid plans slip through my hands
Sleepwalk through the year
Silent besides the ring in my ear
Seal my fate
Close that door
Let nothing ever change
Each new break
More of the same
More of the same
I could live inside that weekend the rest of my life
In the amber of the moment
Under bright lights relive each second for all of time
Never leave this all behind
Night are framed like movie scenes in specious memories
Present tense is nothing to me
Everything word resembles poetry strung from a melody
Present tense is nothing to me
Nothing to me
I could live inside that weekend the rest of my life
In the amber of the moment
Under bright lights relive each second for all of time
Never leave this all behind
The sound of “NOW! 2073” is also the sound of 1983: laser-like minimalist electropop that flirts with coldwave and dance music. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 4, 2021
